Your First 12 Months: A Realistic Relocation Timeline

Every case is different, and timelines shift with the destination, the season, and how quickly documents come together on your end. But most of our clients move through the same broad phases — here's what a realistic year tends to look like.

Months 1–3: Research & Preparation

This is where you choose a destination, have your free consultation, and get matched with a case manager. Together you'll confirm which visa route fits your income and goals, and start gathering the financial and personal documents the application will need — often the slowest-moving part of this phase, since some documents (like apostilled records) take time to request from home.

Months 3–6: Filing & Waiting

Once your application is filed, this phase is mostly patience — though not idle patience. While the government processes your visa, this is a good window to shortlist housing remotely, look into private health insurance options, and start thinking through what you'll ship versus sell versus replace.

Months 6–9: Approval & The Move

With your visa approved, things move quickly: finalizing housing (we usually recommend renting first, even if you plan to buy eventually), arranging your health cover, coordinating the physical move of your belongings, and making travel arrangements for the move itself.

Months 9–12: Settling In

The paperwork isn't quite done once you've arrived — registering locally, opening a bank account, and enrolling in the healthcare system all typically happen in these first months on the ground. This is also when the "settling in" work that doesn't show up on any checklist really starts: building routines, meeting neighbors, and starting to feel like this is home rather than an extended trip.

Some clients move through all four phases faster than a year; others take longer, particularly if a country's processing times are running slow or personal circumstances shift midway. Your case manager will give you a timeline specific to your destination and situation during your consultation, and will keep adjusting it with you as things progress.
